Six returning from Maha Kumbh killed, two injured as jeep hits bus in MP

The jeep driver lost control over the wheels and first hit a tree on the road divider, then jumped over to the other side of a highway and hit a bus coming from the opposite direction.

BELAGAVI: Six people from Belagavi and Bagalkot districts died on the spot in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

They were returning home from Mahakumbh. The deceased have been identified as Balachandra Narayan Goudar, 50, Basavaraj Nirpadappa Kurati, 63, Basavaraj Shivappa Dodamani, 49, and Virupaksha Channappa Gumati of Gokak, Sunil Balakrishna Shedshale, 45, of Hattarki, and Iranna Shankrappa Shebinkatti, 27, of Guledagudda in Bagalkot district.

Mushtak Shindikurbet and Sadashiv Kedari Upadali, who were seriously injured, are being treated in a hospital in Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, the driver of a sport utility vehicle in which they were travelling lost control over the vehicle and rammed a road divider near Jabalpur.

The bodies are expected to reach Belagavi and Bagalkot districts on Tuesday or Wednesday. Several politicians, including MPs Jagadish Shettar and Priyank Jarkiholi and Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, have expressed their condolences.
