“When Bala sir approached him with the offer, he wasn’t even sure why he was being considered. Nevertheless, he didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to work with Bala. He plays a very important role and will sport a special look as well,” a source from the film’s unit told CE.

Asked if Venkatesh plays the prime antagonist, the source said: “It can’t be said with certainty if he plays the baddie. He’s definitelyplaying a key role and we can definitely expect Bala sir to surprise us with his role’s portrayal. He joins the sets later this month.”

The project, which also stars Jyothika as a cop and G.V Prakash Kumarin a negative role in the lead, started rolling from Wednesday. Maestro Ilaiyaraaja has been roped in to compose music.

To be predominantly shot in and around Tamil Nadu, the film is tipped to be a crime thriller and it will feature Jyothika performing some action.

“It will be her most commercial role yet. She accepted the offer because in her decade-long career she hasn’t played anything close to what she will be essaying in this project.”
