KANNUR: Controversy seems a constant companion to young CPM MLA and DYFI state president A N Shamseer. A week after he was subjected to scathing criticism for wishing one of the convicts in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case on his marriage, the latest issue is over his photo being imprinted on calendars distributed in government schools in Thalassery, his constituency.

The calendars also bear the caption “Nammude kunjungal thottadutha pothuvidhyalathilekku” (our kids to the near by public schools). The calendars were distributed as part of an educational project “Ellarum Schoolinu Oppam” lead by the MLA in his constituency.

All schoosl were instructed to hang them up; some followed the instruction.  The project snowballed into a controversy when many parents and teachers opposed it. Shamseer, however, seems unfazed by the controversies. “I do not find anything wrong in this,” he said. “The calendar was not printed by me. The money too was obtained through sponsorship.”
