KOCHI: Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday said Centre was working to improve travel experience of train passengers by comprehensively modernising railway infrastructure.
He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated thematic waiting hall at Ernakulam Town railway station, conjointly with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, through video-conferencing. The session also witnessed launch of a host of amenities at Kollam, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram railway stations.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhu said, “As part of upgrading railway infrastructure, special trains will be operated for the working class, which would allow passengers to board trains at night and reach their workplaces the next morning,” he said, adding, “Our focus is on providing all modern facilities to ordinary people.
Since we need resources for such developments, it would be done in partnership. The proposed infrastructure developments in Kerala would take the State’s railway sector to its optimum level. I am happy to announce that the CM has agreed for ‘joint venture’ with Railway Ministry,” he added.
Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain presided over the function. Ernakulam Town station area manager Hari Krishnan, Cochin Municipal chairperson Gracy Joseph, council member Aristotle, and Kudumbashree district coordinator Tanny Thomas also attended.
