KOCHI: It was a moment of pride for the culture and tradition of Kerala when a group of women set a new record for the largest Vishukani and entered the prestigious Best-of-India and URF Asia Records.

On April 14, over 1400 women uniformly dressed in the traditional Set Mundu and held  the Thalam (decorated plate) gracefully as they entered the Sree Bhavaneeswara  Mahashetra Temple of Palluruthy, Kochi for a darshan of Vishukkani and received Vishu Kaineetam from the temple priest.

A 15 minute performance of Thiruvathirakali  by a smaller group of women followed the record attempt.

The record attempt was organised by Usha P B from Ernakulam, and Rakesh AR from Bangalore.

Later, all the participants donated money and the same was handed over to Dr. K. Chitrathara, Oncologist of Lakeshore Hospital, who was a special invitee.

The event was organised for youngters to teach them how a Vishukanni is kept and to give a helping hand to the needy.
