KOCHI: The Motor Vehicles Department on Saturday seized a bus heading towards Cherai beach from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, for evading tax worth `2.5 lakh.

MVD officials said though the original registration of the bus was with Kanjangad regional transport office, the vehicle owner was operating the bus in Tamil Nadu using a fake registration and chassis number mainly to evade tax.

The MVD officials conducted an inspection at Cherai after getting a tipoff. “Though they changed the vehicle number and chassis number, they forget to change the engine number and that helped us seize the vehicle,” said Najeev, MVD official who seized the vehicle along with MVI Kishore Kumar.
