Is it your dream to live in a city of jewels? Well, it is there very much within you — in your abdomen, the navel centre! Does it sound weird? Can the doctor who operates upon the stomach find any jewels there? Yes, he can — if a doctor who operates the heart can find love or the scalpel that probes the brain can find intelligence there!

The third chakra or centre of energy is the Manipuraka or the city of jewels. Clinically, to understand a chakra, you need to see the functioning of the nervous system of communication in our body. The neurons connect like a chain and pass information through electro-magnetic signals between them through space. The neurons do not touch each other at the finest tip where they meet one another in the chain. That electro-magnetic energy which helps send the information through sound vibrations is called the mind and prana which is the substance of the chakras. Chakras are the vortices around the seven main glandular regions where there are also nerve bundles that act as local transponders for storage and distribution of energy.

Just behind the navel region is the Manipuraka chakra which causes us to think beyond our individual self and reach out to the family, community, society, country and the world. Well, if you are an environmentally conscious person, understand that you function through this chakra. If you are a patriot who wants to help his country, or wishes and prays that your country should win in the cricket match, know that your Manipuraka chakra is very active. It is this chakra that gives you the extra edge and mileage in clinching a job interview. This is where your gut instinct comes from. When there is danger, you feel butterflies in the stomach and this is the chakra that informs you to watch out.

Any financial prosperity happens when the Manipuraka chakra has no blocks. Contrarily, blocks in this chakra through ill-health in the abdominal region or the middle back result in problems with money and lack of ideas to succeed in life. To energise the Manipuraka chakra, the mantra to chant is Ram (where the ‘a’ is pronounced as the ‘u’ in rum). Bright or golden yellow is the colour to meditate to activate this chakra.

The way to recognise blocks in this chakra at the physical level is an unhealthy obesity around the waist, constant abdominal disorders, acidity and many gastro-intestinal problems. At a psychic level, when you feel that all your help done to others is not being adequately acknowledged or recognised by the receivers, it is the blocks in the Manipuraka speaking. ;
