It is the colour that comes to mind when one reads Wordsworth’s Written in Early Spring. It is the colour of a lush meadow in the middle of an English summer. Greenery, is the chosen designate for the year 2017 by Pantone Inc. Each year, since 2000, the corporation declares a ‘colour of the year’ after secret deliberations with the representatives of various nations’ colour standards groups. The green hue has made a comeback after four years. In 2013, emerald was the chosen colour.
Greenery is a zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the memories of first few days of spring when nature’s greens are revived, restored and renewed. The executive director of Pantone Color Institute further elaborates “greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance that we yearn for, amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
The likes of Michael Kors, Max Mara, and Mary Katrantzou have already used this vivacious colour in their spring 2017 collections. From the looks of it, greenery is all set to flood the ramp. If you are wondering that you missed the greenery boat, then no, there is still time for you to personally reflect this global phenomenon. A greenery toned silk scarf from Hermes. Or that tunic from the Kors collection.
How about greenery painted nails? Or a shimmer of greenery eye shadow for a night out? If green makeup reminds you too much of Zoe Saldana from the Guardians of the Galaxy, then invest in greenery tinted peep-toes. If greenery on your person gives you the heebie -jeebies, then let the colour invade your living space. A full blown green house will seem right out of Edward Scissorhands, so how about you paint just one wall in the living room? Or if green walls seem too permanent, then go for a greenery-upholstered statement chair, or a velvet greenery coloured couch. A big crystal flower vase in the said colour, or an oil incense burner placed in the corner of your house will go a long way to break the monotony. To top it all, get greenery silk floor-to-ceiling curtains. And let the colour weave it’s magic.
