NEW DELHI: With the Congress high command saying that further consultations on the Telangana issue are needed before taking a final call, pro-Telangana activists led by TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) met Opposition leaders to reiterate that there was no need for further consultations for the UPA Government to make an early decision.
A delegation of TRS leaders and Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) members met CPI leader A B Bardan and D Raja to seek their support for the separate state. Expressing solidarity, Bardan said there was no need for further discussion on the issue and the Centre should make an early decision. He said that he would write a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, T-JAC leaders continued to target Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy and Members of Parliament from the Telangana region to quit their posts to bring further pressure on the government. T-JAC chairman Kodandaram demanded that Jaipal Reddy should quit by October 7. Jaipal Reddy, the lone Union Minister from Telangana, met the Prime Minister immediately after TRS and Telangana JAC delegations. Sources said Reddy had an appointment with Prime Minister to discuss his ministerial issues.
During their meeting with the Prime Minister, TRS and Telangana JAC leaders not only urged him to make an early decision on Telangana but also complained against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
They pointed out the attacks on protestors, withholding of salaries of agitating government employees during the festive season and requested him to advise the Chief Minister not to be harsh on the protestors.
