NEW DELHI: The election for two seats to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand will be held afresh. This was decided by the Election Commission late on Friday, after it received reports of large-scale horse-trading to buy votes in the state. Earlier, state I-T authorities seized cash amounting to `2.15 crore from the vehicle of a relative of one of the candidates, R K Agrawal, who is contesting as an independent.
While a probe is on to ascertain the source of the money, the EC also came across unusual instances in the poll — it found that three MLAs, belonging to different parties “showed their ballot papers to persons other than their party agents, and thus, violated the prescribed voting procedure”.
