Women's Panel Demands Trinamool MP's Arrest for Rape Remarks

IANS

NEW DELHI: Demanding the arrest of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul for making derogatory remarks, the National Commission for Women (NCW) Monday said it will initiate action against him.

"He has insulted women of the entire country. Immediate action should be taken against him. He should be arrested and asked to resign," NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma said.

The actor-turned-politician, who represents Krishnanagar in West Bengal's Nadia district, has been caught in video warning Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) men to "beware" of him as he won't "spare them and destroy their entire clan" and "unleash his boys to rape their women".

Flaying the Trinamool's decision giving the MP 48 hours to give an explanation, Sharma said the NCW will initiate action.

"Being a woman, chief minister (Mamata Banerjee) should take immediate action. I have heard that he has been given 48 to give an explanation, but I think giving him so much time is unwarranted.

"We will take cognisance and depute a team to enquire what action has been taken against him," added Sharma.
