IMPHAL : After a series of violent incidents over the past few days, an uneasy calm prevailed in restive Manipur on Tuesday even as the United Naga Council (UNC), which choked supplies by enforcing an indefinite economic blockade on two national highways, demanded the imposition of President’s Rule (PR) in the State.

Meanwhile, senior Home Ministry officials, quoted by news agency PTI, said the Centre has rushed around 4,000 paramilitary personnel to address the situation.

While around 1,500 paramilitary personnel were rushed over the last two days, around 2,500 of them were sent last week. Sources said a UNC delegation met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his deputy Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi on Tuesday.
