Intelligence wing warns of terror attacks in Punjab

Sources said that a specific alert in this regard was issued on Friday to all the Senior Superintendents of Police.

CHANDIGARH: The intelligence wing of the Punjab police has warned of possible terror attacks in Pathankot, Gurdaspur districts of Punjab and Kathua area of Jammu and Kashmir bordering Punjab.

Sources said that a specific alert in this regard was issued on Friday to all the Senior Superintendents of Police, Police Commissioners, Inspector Generals of Police (Zone), Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (Ranges) and the Office of Director Generals of Police (Intelligence).

“As per intelligence inputs received from the Central intelligence agencies, a group of four to five militants of  Lashkar-e-Toiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed are presently residing in Chak Qazaian village in Pakistan opposite to 132/97 BN BSF (Kathua sector) desperately looking to infiltrate from a nullah (riverbed),’’ the alert said. “The militants are in touch with one of the residents at the Gujjar ‘deras’ in the general area  along the International Border.  It is also learnt that the militants are planning to attack in the hinterland of Jammu region to avoid any detection on the border. They have tasked their sympathisers along the international border to gather information regarding Army posts and police checkposts along the border link road to NH 1-A and Gurdaspur region for militant attacks in the coming days,’’ the alert said.

Alerts have been issued to the  Punjab and J&K Police.
