O V Vijayan's "Khasakkinte Ithihasam" staged in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: For those who have read renowned post modern writer O V Vijayan's "Khasakkinte Ithihasam" (The Legends of Khasak), the adaptation of the novel into a drama which is being staged at medical college ground in the city, has come as an unique opportunity to enjoy the timeless characters of the novel which have been captivating the readers for the last four decades.

As the characters entered the stage --Ravi, Allappicha Mollaka, Ravi, Appukkili, Kunhamina-one by one, the audience were all taken into a narrative world of the novel which continued to be of the greatest works of fiction in Indian literature.

The novel has been made into a drama by Deepan Sivaraman, one of the talented directors in Indian theatre at the moment, and produced by K M K Smaraka Kalasamithi, Thrikkaripur (Kasaragod). He has been staging the drama at various places over the past few months to packed houses. Thanks to well crafted narrative style utilising a large screen in the background which displayed filmed scenes and sketches of the novel, the audience remained spell-bound. The director even used fire, water and even cooked food with mouth-watering smell to give a real feel to the audience on the milieu and setting of the novel. There will be two more shows at the venue on Tuesday and Wednesday.
