Fasting Medha Patkar dehydrated, BP low

The condition of Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, who is on a fast in support of the demands of the oustee families, has deteriorated on Friday.

DHAR: The condition of Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, who is on a fast in support of the demands of the oustee families, has deteriorated on the ninth day, doctors attending on her said on Friday.

The doctors found her dehydrated and suffering from low blood pressure. However, she refused to take medicines or visit a hospital.

Petkar and 11 others are on fast since July 27 in Chikhalda village to demand better rehabilitation of the families in the Narmada Valley who have been affected by the increase in the dam's height. As many as 40,000 families living in around 190 villages will be affected.

The Supreme Court had directed the rehabilitation of the affected persons by July 31, before the Gujarat government could be allowed to raise the dam's height.
