BHOPAL: Five men drowned of alleged electrocution in a 40-feet deep water well fitted with an electric motor pump in Maksudangarh area of Guna district on Sunday.

The incident happened in Raghunathpura village in Maksudangarh police station area at around 3 pm, when 45-year-old farmer Dayaram Lodhi entered his well to repair a defective electric motor pump.
Not knowing that current was passing through the defective pump, Lodhi was electrocuted and started to drown.

Four other villagers — Chote Lal (18), Ram Babu (24), Dhiraj (30) and Jagmohan (34) — who individually hastened to rescue Lodhi and later each other, were also electrocuted.

Maksudangarh police rushed to the village and retrieved the five bodies bodies from the well with the help of villagers.

“All five bodies have been sent for autopsy, but prima facie it appears that they were first electrocuted and then drowned,” said Ashok Dube, assistant sub inspector (ASI), Maksudangarh police station.
