KOLKATA: Five days after Calcutta High Court ordered the West Bengal government to take disciplinary action against former Burdwan Superintendent of Police (SP) S M H Mirza, who was caught accepting bribe in the Narada sting, the State government on Thursday issued a showcause notice to the officer who is at present the commandant of the Special Strike Force of West Bengal Police.

Sources revealed that a departmental inquiry would be initiated against Mirza after which he may be suspended following solid evidence available against him. The IPS officer was the Burdwan SP when the sting operation was conducted in 2012 and was transferred to Barackpore to his current post in 2015.

Meanwhile, Calcutta Police has booked a case of cheating against Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kanwar Deep Singh and his son Karandeep Singh and Pawan Verma of Alchemist company, based on a complaint filed by an employee alleging cheating of around Rs 2.5 crore.

"Cases under Section 420 (cheating), 406 (breach of trust), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) of IPC at Bowbazaar Police Station in Kolkata," a police official told The New Indian Express. An FIR was filed by the Alchemist employee -- complainant in the case -- in the same police station on March 16.

Incidentally, Narada TV CEO Matthew Samuel had alleged that the sting operation was conducted on the direction and sponsorship of Kanwar Deep Singh.
