Citing the recent Supreme Court judgement holding right to privacy a fundamental right, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday moved the apex court against the Centre's decision to make Aadhaar linking mandatory.
The Supreme Court will hear the West Bengal government’s plea on Monday, reported CNN News 18.
The Trinamool leader on Wednesday had declared that she won't link her Aadhaar number with phone number, and dared the Centre to disconnect her number for disobedience.
“What does BJP want? Do they want to listen to people’s secrets? It’s a direct attack on privacy," she had said.
On the other hand, the Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it has extended the deadline to link Aadhaar to March 31, 2018. The extension is applicable to those who do not possess the card, but are willing to enrol.
