CHANDIGARH: The Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa is seeking legal advice on anointing Jasmeet Singh, son of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, as the latter's successor albeit in a caretaker capacity.

According to sources, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s family returned to Sirsa on October 26 and  Ram Rahim's mother Naseeb Kaur wanted to formally announce the 33-year-old Jasmeet Singh as caretaker chief of the sect. However, second thoughts crept in and the Dera is now learnt to be seeking legal advice on the matter.

Naseeb Kaur has called an emergency meeting on Tuesday during which Ram Rahim's relatives and functionaries of Dera Sacha Sauda will discuss the succession, sources said.

Since the conviction of Ram Rahim for rape on August 25, all decisions on administrative matters of the Dera were being taken by its chief executive officer, Vipassana Insan. However, sources said she has lost interest in running the administration and handed over all important documents and keys to Jasmeet.

At present, Jasmeet heads the sports department of the Dera.

Although there is no official word from the management, Jasmeet is likely to be formally declared as caretaker chief on Nov. 25, the birth anniversary of former dera chief Shah Satnam.
