MUMBAI:  Chhattisgarh government is all set to file a review petition in the Supreme Court challenging its order diluting certain provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Chief minister Raman Singh on Tuesday set aside the state police headquarter (PHQ) order issued to all district police chief to strictly comply with the Supreme Court’s recent verdict “The PHQ directive (on implementing SC’s order) stands cancelled. We (along with the Centre) will appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court”, said chief minister Raman Singh.

“The state government is affected by the judgement. In Chhattisgarh, it is the responsibility of the government to protect the honour of SCs and STs. The State government has always been sensitive towards them,” he said. On April 6, the state PHQ had instructed all the district superintendents of police with a missive that those not complying with the directive might face the disciplinary action as also the proceedings on the contempt of the Apex Court.
