Amritsar rail tragedy: Financial assistance to nine more victim families

The assistance in the form of cheques was presented to the affected families by cabinet ministers Brahm Mohindra and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria in the presence of Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu.

AMRITSAR: Punjab government on Wednesday provided Rs five lakh financial assistance each to nine more victim families of those killed in recent train mishap at Joura Phatak crossing.

The state government has so far given cheques for Rs 5 lakh each to 38 families.

The assistance in the form of cheques was presented to the affected families by cabinet ministers Brahm Mohindra and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria in the presence of Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu.

The Ministers also shared the grief of the families.

While handing over the cheques, Mr Mohindra said that the Punjab government stands shoulder to shoulder with the victim families in their hour of grief.

He said that of the total 58 tragedy-stricken families, 38 have been financial aids.

He also said that the remaining would also get assistance very soon.

On the occasion, Mr Sarkaria said that though the loss of life in the mishap is irreparable but the financial assistance provided by the Punjab government would bring some succour to the victim families.

He said that injured would also be provided financial assistance Rs 50,000 each soon.

The state government, he said, would undertake every step for the rehabilitation of the affected families as it feels their pain.
