NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was on Monday appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, replacing Acharya Devvrat, who has been made the Governor of Gujarat.

Devvrat will replace Governor of Gujarat OP Kohli, who is set to retire.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique said the appointments of Mishra and Devvrat will come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.

78-year-old Mishra was the minister for micro, small and medium enterprises in the previous tenure of the Narendra Modi government but Mishra resigned from the government in 2017 after he crossed the age of 75, the BJP’s unofficial age limit for holding an elected post.

The Uttar Pradesh politician did not contest the last Lok Sabha election.

Devvrat (60) was appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2015.

“The President of India is pleased to make the following appointment/ changes Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Himachal Pradesh is transferred and appointed as Governor of Gujarat. Kalraj Mishra as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh” said the statement.

Earlier this month, Mishra had asked BJP leaders to behave properly and with dignity in the public as per the directives of PM Narendra Modi.

“We are different from other parties and this difference should be reflected in our behaviour in the public. Because we have won elections it does not mean we have the right to humiliate others,” Mishra had said while reacting to the unruly behaviour of some BJP leaders.
