CBI books Wankhede for seeking Rs 25 crore bribe to let off Shah Rukh son

NEW DELHI:  The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked former Narcotics Control Bureau officer Sameer Wankhede and four others for allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case, officials said.

Aryan was arrested along with his friends in an alleged drug bust case on the Cordelia cruise ship on October 2, 2021. In the FIR, filed on the basis of a complaint from the NCB under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the India Penal code, the CBI along with Wankhede has also named Vishwa Vijay Singh, then superintendent, NCB, Ashish Ranjan, then intelligence officer of Mumbai zonal unit, NCB and two individuals - KP Gosavi and Sanvile D’Souza. 

The CBI also carried out searches on Friday at 29 locations associated to Wankhede and others across Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, Lucknow, Chennai, Guwahati and other places and seized incriminating documents, articles and cash among other things which are under scrutiny.

It is alleged that IRS officer Wankhede and others had allegedly demanded Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing Aryan Khan in the alleged drug bust, they said. The CBI received information that Rs 50 lakh was allegedly collected by the officer and his accomplice as advance, the officials said.
