Three suspected NSCN cadres killed in Assam encounter after 60-hour search operation

GUWAHATI: Three suspected members of a faction of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) were killed in an encounter with Assam Police special units and Assam Rifles in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Tuesday.

A cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession by the special units of the state police and Assam Rifles who conducted a search for the militants for around 60 hours.

The security personnel had launched a search operation on Saturday evening after receiving information that some armed rebels, who had given an extortion letter to NHAI – National Projects (Golden Quadrilateral) in Dima Hasao district, were hiding at a place under the Haflong police station.

“Today morning, the search parties came across an armed group, almost after 60 hours of search, in the area between N Kubin-Hera Kilo. The armed miscreants fired on the government forces, which was retaliated and there was a heavy exchange of fire. "

"We have recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pistol and a cache of ammunition from the spot," the Assam police said in a statement.
