PG student of MKCG dies in Odisha, drug overdose suspected

According to sources, Subhani was under medication for migraine and is suspected to have died of drug overdose.

BERHAMPUR: Unease prevailed on the MKCG medical college campus in Berhampur on Thursday following the death of a postgraduate student under mysterious circumstances. The deceased Subhani Patnaik from Purusottampur in Ganjam district was a PG first-year student in the Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy Department of the MCH.

According to sources, Subhani was under medication for migraine and is suspected to have died of a drug overdose. However, the exact reason for her death is yet to be ascertained. Subhani was rescued from her hostel room in critical condition at around 12.45 pm on the day and admitted to the hospital. She died while undergoing treatment, sources added. On being informed, Baidyanathpur Police reached the spot and began an investigation.

IIC RK Murmu said the body has been sent for postmortem and a case of unnatural death registered. Meanwhile, Subhani’s father Dr Rabindra Patnaik reached the MKCGMCH and lodged an FIR with Medical Police Outpost. He, however, did not mention anything about foul play in the death of his daughter.
