Begusarai (Bihar), Jan 6 (PTI) A brother and sister werethrashed by policemen after their bike collided with bike ofcops in Begusarai district today, triggering protest by localswho blocked the NH 31 ahead of Chief Minister Nitish Kumarpassing through the area for a programme in the district.

After the collision, two angry bike borne policementhrashed the brother-sister and also damaged their bike nearstation chowk under Balia police station, Balia SHO SunilKumar said.

The siblings have been identified as Mohan Kumar andSuman Kumari,residents of Janipur village of the district.

The incident occurred when both brother and sisterwere returning from Barbighi village under Balia policestation after seeing the dead body of their maternal grandmother, Kumar said.

The incident angered the local people who blocked NH31 (Begusarai-Khagaria main road) for nearly two hoursdemanding action against the erring policemen, the policeofficer said.

The policemen, who thrashed the duo, managed toescape from the spot after seeing the angry mob.

Stern action would be taken against the erringpolicemen as per the law once they (policeme) are identified,the SHO added.

Since the Chief Minister's programme was schedulednear Balia in the district today, police resorted to mildlathicharge after locals started pelting stones on them andcleared the blockade, the SHO said. PTI CORR ARSNS.
