Hard-fought Victory for Rafath

Express News Service

CHENNAI: Rafath Habib of Railways kept title hopes alive with a 4-3 win over Akshay Kumar of UP in a last 32 match of the RKG Pro Snooker Series at Cosmopolitan Club. Rafath was enjoying a 3-1, but a slip in the fifth frame on black ball put him in danger zone. After losing that frame, he failed to save the sixth and lost 61-71 to go into the decider.

In the decider, Rafath could have landed in more trouble, but when Akshay missed on 27, he capitalised on the opportunity and won a place in the pre-quarterfinals. Local boys Peter Paul and S Shrikrishna lost in the fifth round. While Peter succumbed to Ishpreet Chadha of Maharashtra 2-3, Himanshu Jain of Telangana blanked Shrikrishna 3-0.
