MEXICO CITY: Spain's Rafael Nadal and Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro are among the players who will compete at next year's Mexican Open in the Pacific port city of Acapulco.

The 30-year-old Nadal, the champion in Acapulco in 2005 and 2013, will be vying for his third title at the event, which will be held February 27 to March 4, 2017, tournament director Raul Zurutuza said in a press conference here on Tuesday.

The Spanish star won the clay-court events in Barcelona and Monte Carlo this year.

Del Potro, the 2009 US Open champion, will be in Acapulco next year after pulling out of the 2016 tournament due to a wrist injury, Zurutuza said.

The 27-year-old Del Potro is currently competing with Argentina's team in the Davis Cup, tennis' premier international team competition.

The Mexican Open, which started in 1993, will offer $1.2 million in prize money.

The women's tour tournament will offer $250,000 in prize money.
