HYDERABAD: Delhi Daredevils coach Greg Shipperd said that his team has been like a yo-yo in the IPL-4 season. Languishing in the bottom half of the table, DD have kept their dreams of making it to the top four alive.

“It’s a beautiful surface on what looks a good wicket and enjoy the day,” said Shipperd on the eve of Thursday’s match against Deccan Chargers. Excerpts from an interaction session...

On motivating the players

It’s such a prestigious competition and it is not difficult to motivate any player to play at their best. And usually when you play any game, both sides are coming out full of hope and full of competitiveness. So it is not a problem from the coaching point of view.

On Sehwag and Warner

I think the only emphasis we internally place on is that every person in the side has a responsibility to do their job. Obviously the two batsmen that set the pace to any innings are the openers. Both Sehwag and Warner are exciting batsmen and if they have a good day then our team is well placed. Everybody understands that so it doesn’t become an internal issue.

On Irfan Pathan

He’s certainly not won a game off his own bat. But I think he’s been a solid contributor. And his bowling has been very steady and sound. He’s had some difficult roles with the bat coming at the back end of our innings and that is always difficult for any batsman. So we’ll put our thinking caps on how best we fit him in the team and give him the opportunity with the bat in his hand. We’re actually quietly pleased with his contribution.
