CHENNAI: On a day when Faf du Plessis was fined 100 per cent of his match fee for ball tampering, India Test skipper found himself in the middle of a similar controversy.
In a video doing the rounds on the net, and reported by British tabloid Daily Mail, Kohli is seen putting his hands deep in his mouth and then shining the ball with it. The tabloid said Kohli had a 'sweet in his mouth', probably a chewing gum, much like Du Plessis did.
The incident seems to have happened in the first Test in Rajkot, which was drawn.
But reliable sources in the International Cricket Council (ICC) told Express that action won't be taken against the skipper. "We have been brought to notice about this incident, but it is too late now. The footage is from the Rajkot Test. For any report to be submitted you have only five day period which is way passed. With Du Plessis, the incident came to light on Tuesday and a report was tabled on Friday. The ICC is using the same protocal for both the incidents, there is no talk of overlooking this particular (Kohli) incident," sources in the ICC said.

The ICC's rule 3.2.2.1 states that, "a Level 1 Offence or a Level 2 Offence that is alleged to have been committed at any time or place (whether on the field of play or otherwise), then the report must be lodged with the match referee (or, where, for logistical reasons, it is impractical to lodge with the match referee, the ICC’s cricket operations department) within five (5) days of the commission of the alleged offence."
