CHENNAI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has called for application to the posts of junior cricket committee on Monday. However, apart from the five members in the committee what struck as interesting are the roles and responsibilities of the junior cricket committee. It will definitely be responsible for hosting competitions in every zone until the age of U-22 but their responsibilities will extend to education -- from drugs to match-fixing. Ethics is another area the BCCI is giving thrust to. The committee needs to inculcate those values in the players.
According the advertisement on the BCCI website, the committee's role would be to select of all age group teams up to Under 22 years for the purpose of coaching camps or for playing against local or foreign teams within India or abroad in any format of the game.
Among the responsibilities, the committee has to "Plan and prepare a strong bench strength for the respective age group teams."
The committee members will also have to travel across the country to watch domestic and international matches.
They will also be vetting and selecting coaches and support staff (physiotherapists, trainers, therapists, analysts, and medics) for the respective teams. They need to prepare and provide evaluation reports of the respective team performances to the Apex Council of BCCI on a quarterly basis.
Apart from the above, the committee will be responsible to inculcate proper ethics in the youth, particularly through interactions with senior and former players on issues such as drugs, betting and match-fixing, etc. The current committee's last responsibility will be to select Rest of India U-23 squad for the Junior Irani Cup, featuring the CK Nayudu champions against the ROI U-23 side.
