HYDERABAD:  The Department of Posts, in association with Reliance Money Limited (RML), today launched sale of 24-carat gold coins at post offices in the twin cities.

Coins weighing 0.5 gm, 1 gm, 5 gm and 8 gm will be sold in tamper-proof packs and will be available at 15 identified post offices in the twin cities.

Launching the service, Andhra Pradesh Circle Chief Postmaster-General Yeshodhara Menon said that the sale price would be decided by the RML on a day-to-day basis. ``We are confident of a good response. The global economic meltdown would have no effect on the sale of gold coins. Based on initial response, we will extend this service to other parts of the State,’’ she said.

Anand Krishnamoorthy, National Product Head (Gold) of RML, said their gold coins were 99.99 percent pure and minted by Valcambi, the largest gold-refining company in Switzerland. The additional benefits for buyers will include internationally- recognised certification, low risk of duplication.

Five percent discount will be given on all gold coins purchased before the end of this year.
