HYDERABAD: While the star couple, Rajasekhar and Jeevitha, were away on a location shooting for a movie, burglars had a field day stealing gold worth Rs 6 lakh from their house here in the wee hours of Monday.
The couple left their home at Prashasan Nagar in Jubilee Hills at 11 pm to participate in the shooting. When they returned home at 4 am they found the door open and the gold kept in the almirah missing.
Jubilee Hills inspector K Narsing Rao told Express that Rs 15,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh had been stolen. Police suspect the role of domestic-cum-watchman Nagaraju, who has gone missing since last night, in the theft. Sources said that Nagaraju was seen guarding the house until the couple left for shooting. ``It is the habit of the couple to keep the almirah keys underneath the bed and the keys of the house in a flower pot before moving out.
Someone who is quite familiar with the topography of the house and the couple's habit of leaving the keys in the pot might have stolen the property,'' police said.
The thief, after gaining entry into the house, walked up to the first floor where the almirah is located. Taking the keys from underneath the bed, he opened the almirah and made off with the gold and cash. Realising that a theft took place in their house, Jeevitha tried to contact Nagaraju but, to her surprise, the man was found missing.
The actor couple then alerted the Jubilee Hills police who registered a case of theft. Both Rajasekhar and Jeevitha confirmed to the police that Nagaraju was aware of the place where the keys were usually kept. Nagaraju has been absconding.
