VIJAYAWADA: With producers releasing the original DVD a couple of months after release of the movie, the pirated DVD market has been taking a hit. So to cut down on their losses, shops selling pirated DVDs are offering them for Rs 1.

Some of the DVDs on offer for Rs 1, were Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Striker and Kedi. The shopkepper on condition of anonymity, revealed they were forced to sell the DVDs for Rs 1, otherwise no one would buy pirated DVDs, when the original was available for Rs 30.

The DVD shop-owners sell pirated DVDs at Rs 30, which are available in the market within 10 days of a movie’s release. They get the master copy of the DVD from Chennai after paying some amount and use it to make copies between 10,000 and 20,000, based on the star quotient and public interest.
