HYDERABAD: A Sudarshan Reddy is the new Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh. He is the first lawyer from the Telangana region to get this rare honour since the formation of the State in 1956.

Prior to his appointment, the State government has accepted the resignation of outgoing Advocate General DV Sitarama Murthy.

Though several names, including that of P Nirup Reddy, were among the frontrunners for the post, eventually Sudarshan Reddy emerged as the winner. Despite lobbying by a few ministers for Nirup Reddy, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is learnt to have favoured Sudarshan Reddy.

Apart from being a non-controversial advocate, Sudarshan Reddy enjoys a good rapport with the Chief Minister as the duo were college mates at Nizam College.

Hailing from Karimnagar district, Sudarshan Reddy pursued his graduation from Nizam’s College and later completed his law course from Osmania University.

He practised law for over 30 years arguing both civil and constitutional matters. He served as the Standing Counsel of the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC).
