HYDERABAD: Noted Telugu film actor Nutan Prasad passed away here on Wednesday.

He was ailing for quite some time. Around 6 a.m.yesterday, Prasad complained of uneasiness, but died while being taken to Apollo Hospital. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

Born Vara Prasad in 1945 at Kaikaluru in Krishna district, Nutan Prasad debuted in the film world in 1973 in 'Andala Ramudu' , a movie that starred Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

Since then, he has acted in a variety of roles - he has successfully proved his mettle as a rib-tickling comedian, a scheming villain, a doting father, and many more.

Other films he starrred include Muthyala Muggu, Patnam Vachina Pativratalu, Khaidi, Magamaharaju, Srivariki Premalekha, Aha Naa Pellanta. He was known for his unique dialogue delivery.

''Assale desham klista paristhithilo undi’, Nootokka jillalaku andagadni ' were his most popular dialogues and 'Mutyala Muggu' brought him recognition and fame.

An accident on the sets of 'Baamma Maata Bangaru Maata' in 1989 threatened to end his career - he broke his back and was left paralysed waist down. Since then, he was confined to a wheelchair.

In 1984, he was honoured with a Nandi Award for Best Actor in a supporting role for the film Sundari Subbarao, and then, with the NTR National Award in 2005.

A staunch follower of late NTR, Prasad joined the TDP and even campaigned for the party in the elections but following the accident he dropped out.

A few years ago, Prasad also underwent an open heart surger
