2 CIs Suspended for Shielding Cop Facing Rape Charges

Director general of police Dinesh Reddy has suspended two circle inspectors for allegedly shielding a constable facing rape charges in Vinukonda on Friday night.

The duo - Y Srinivasa Rao, currently working in Macherla town and Battula Srinivasa Rao, now with central crime station of Nellore city - earlier worked in Vinukonda and ignored several pleas made by the victim to punish the accused. According to Vinukonda circle inspector Ch Balasubrahmanyam, a 19-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by constable Ochuri Venkat on July 14, 2010 at Masidu Manyam Colony in Vinukonmda town. The victim lodged a complaint with the Vinukonda  police the same day and the then sub-inspector of police Siva Prasad registered a case against Ochuri Venkat.

However, Y Srinivasa Rao and his successor Battula Srinivasa Rao allegedly tried to shield the constable and did not arrest him. The woman’s husband, Kamepalli Venkata Rao (name changed) met the two several times and requested for justice but in vain.

Subsequently, the victim lodged a complaint with the CB-CID against the two CIs and the constable. The CBCID conducted an inquiry and submitted a report recently to the DGP, who issued suspension orders to the two CIs Friday night for not arresting the erring cop. Meanwhile, the CB-CID officials arrested Venkat and questioned the two CIs in connection with the case. They also submitted a report to the higher authorities.
