GUNTUR: Speculation is rife here that senior Telugu Desam leader and former Union minister Ummareddy Venkateswarlu may quit the party very soon and join the YSR Congress Party.

According to sources, Venkateswarlu, a Kapu leader from this politically- sensitive district and member of the TDP Politburo for 19 years, feels he is being neglected by the party leadership and has been distancing himself from party activities for the last a few months.

It is learnt party chief Naidu had promised to nominate Venkateswarlu to the Rajya Sabha and reneged on his word.

Sources said that despite Venkateswarlu’s repeated attempts, one of his family members was denied an MLC ticket.

When contacted by Express over telephone, Venkateswarly merely said he would announce his future course in a couple of days
