Rare Surgery at Kanumuri Hospitals

Express News Service

GUNTUR:  In a first of its kind in the state, doctors of Kanumuri Hospitals at Kothapet in Guntur city performed a surgery on a five-year-girl Navyasri, who was suffering from Multiloculated Empyema with thickened pleura, through thoracoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery).

Giving details of the surgery here Thursday, Dr K Srinivasa Rao said after necessary investigations, they identified the girl suffering with the problem as a result of adhesions between pleura and chest wall.  If the thick pus, adhesions and thicken pluera are not removed, the pleura would further thicken forming a Pleural Rind which leads to lung collapse on the same side and bending of spine to the same side, he said.
