CBI arrest two postal employees in Visakhapatnam for illegal exchange of currency

VIJAYWADA: CBI sleuths arrested two postal department employees on Friday in Visakhapatnam on the charges of fraudulently exchanging Rs 21.73 lakhs of valid currency notes against the demonetised old notes.

Based on a reliable information about misappropriation of new notes by the officials of Sub-Post office on Andhra University campus in Visakhapatnam, anti-corruption branch of CBI conducted a joint surprise check on December 14 and found that the sub-postmaster K Lalitha and treasurer S Samuel John have unauthorisedly and fraudulently exchanged Rs 21.73 lakh valid notes in conspiracy with their friends and acquaintances.

A case was registered on December 15 and today the duo were arrested. They will be produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam. Search is still continuing as the residences of the accused and the investigation is under progress.
