VIJAYAWADA: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has postponed MLC elections under MLA quota from March 17 to March 20.

In a statement here, the ECI said that the date of counting of votes would be taken up at 5 pm on March 20.

The ECI also postponed the date of counting of votes scheduled on March 15 to March 20 for MLC polls for the graduates and teachers constituencies.

The counting of votes for election of MLCs from Local Authority Constituencies is on March 20 and therefore there was no postponement.

According to sources, the postponement was made to prevent results of one category of MLCs, having counting schedule earlier having influence on the outcome of other category of MLCs whose counting of votes is scheduled later.
