HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the AP government to file counter affidavit on a plea seeking directions to the AP police not to grant permission to writer and social activist professor Kancha Ilaiah’s proposed meeting at Gymkhana grounds in Vijayawada.Justice A V Sesha Sai was dealing with a petition filed by the Vijayawada Urban District Aryavysya Sangam, represented by its president K Vidyadhar Rao, complaining that the police have failed to consider their representation seeking steps to stop the ‘unlawful assembly’ by Prof Kancha Ilaiah and his supporters in Vijayawada. Earlier the meeting was scheduled to take place on October 28.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the proposed meeting was intended to propagate and promote Prof Kancha Ilaiah’s ‘unlawful activity’, and sought the court to declare the proposed public meeting as illegal.
After hearing the case, the judge directed the State government to file its counter affidavit on the issue and adjourned the case by four weeks. Prof Kancha Ilaiah is in the eye of a storm with the publication of his book “Komatollu Samajika Smugglarlu”.
