VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam will host the BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting and BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 22 and 23 respectively, as part of India’s BRICS Chairship 2026. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya will chair the meetings, which will bring together Ministers and Heads of Delegation from all 11 BRICS member countries.
India’s BRICS Chairship is being conducted under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with a focus on cooperation across member countries.
The Youth Ministers’ Meeting on August 22 will focus on youth development and empowerment. Discussions will cover education, skills, entrepreneurship, wellbeing and sustainable development. The meeting will also consider recommendations from the BRICS Youth Council Meeting and BRICS Youth Summit and identify areas for cooperation under future BRICS chairships.
The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of the BRICS Youth Ministerial Joint Declaration and the BRICS Youth Cooperation Framework.
The Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 23 will focus on strengthening cooperation in sports. The sports agenda under India’s chairship has included traditional and indigenous sports, sports technology, sports manufacturing and preparation of the BRICS Sports Joint Declaration. The Sports Ministers’ Meeting will conclude with the adoption of the Joint Declaration. Representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are scheduled to participate.
Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse will also participate in the proceedings. Senior officials, including Youth Affairs Secretary Sunil Paliwal and Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao, will be associated with the meetings.
The programme will include country statements, bilateral meetings and cultural engagements. A BRICS Friendship Cycling Event will also be organised as part of the programme. The meetings are intended to facilitate exchange of experiences and best practices.
