VIJAYAWADA: The BJP is giving top priority to women’s empowerment and youth leadership, Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma said on Sunday.
Addressing valedictory session of two‑day Viksit Bharat Young Political Leaders Dialogue‑2026, Varma said youth would play a key role in achieving a developed India by 2047. He urged young people to enter politics with a commitment to public service rather than seeking positions or power.
Varma noted that the BJP has provided 33 per cent representation to women in its affiliated organisations and morchas for the past 25 years, citing Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as an example of women rising through party ranks. He said the Women’s Reservation Bill, brought by the Narendra Modi government, would ensure 33 per cent reservation in legislatures, with steps for implementation expected in upcoming polls.
Recalling his 36‑year association with the party, Varma said he joined not for office but to serve the nation. He urged youth to apply lessons from the programme at the grassroots and emerge as capable MLAs, MPs and ministers.
