South Central Railway conducts safety, health awareness drive across 19 stations in Andhra

Special safety drills were conducted to prepare staff for managing the surge in traffic during summer.

VIJAYAWADA: The Civil Defence Organisation of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway, successfully conducted a Mega Safety and Health Awareness Campaign from May 7 to 21, covering 19 stations across the division.

The campaign was carried out under the guidance and leadership of DRM Mohit Sonakiya, along with PE Edwin, ADRM (Infrastructure), and Srinivas Rao Konda, ADRM (Operations). It aimed to enhance the preparedness of frontline and ground staff in effectively handling emergencies, particularly during the peak summer season and increased passenger movement.

During the campaign, extensive training sessions and live demonstrations were conducted, focusing on fire safety exercises, and handling fire-related emergencies. Awareness was also imparted on sunstroke prevention and management for both passengers and railway staff, considering the prevailing summer conditions. In addition, sessions on crowd management within station premises were held to ensure better handling of rush.

The programme also emphasized life-saving skills such as CPR, choke relief techniques, and basic health awareness practices for frontline staff and passengers. Special safety drills were conducted to prepare staff for managing the surge in traffic during summer.

The campaign witnessed active participation across the division, with over 7,000 railway staff trained and sensitized, significantly strengthening their capability to respond to emergencies and ensure passenger safety.

The initiative reflects Vijayawada Division’s continued commitment towards ensuring passenger safety, and promoting proactive disaster management practices across its network.
