AHMEDABAD: In a first-of-its-kind move in the Gujarat Police, 415 police personnel have been transferred simultaneously on their own requests under the husband-wife transfer policy, allowing them to serve closer to their spouses and families.

The decision was taken by Gujarat Director General of Police Gyanendrasinh Malik and covers personnel from six cadres.

The transfers include 27 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), 33 head constables and 355 police constables. Among them are 226 unarmed police constables, 129 armed police constables, 27 armed and unarmed ASIs, and 33 armed and unarmed head constables.

Police officials said the move addresses a long-standing issue of spouses serving in different districts, units or locations for extended periods because of government postings.

For police personnel, long-distance postings are often made more difficult by irregular working hours, emergency duties and law-and-order responsibilities, making it challenging to manage family responsibilities.

Recognising these difficulties, Malik approved transfer requests from personnel seeking postings closer to their spouses.

Officials said the initiative aims to help police personnel maintain a better balance between their professional duties and family responsibilities while continuing to serve the state.
