BANGALORE: The Commercial Taxes Department is to extend and implement the e-filing of forms and returns across the state to enable the Department to move to a paperless era and making information available in digital form, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (P&L) C Surya Prakash said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at an interactive meeting organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce Industry (FKCCI). He said that the department was making a demonstration on obtaining the delivery note Form VAT 505 and furnishing the information electronically for obtaining declaration in Form C.

“This system is being used successfully by about 250 traders for over a year now and like every new project, there are a few hiccups as some traders lack computer knowledge. And to avoid this, we will postpone the implementation for a couple of months as we want to train the traders and then successfully launch the system across the state,” he said. The e-filing system is already in use in 10 - 12 local VAT offices as of now, he said.  FKCCI president D Murlidhar said that the information technology and computerisation enables better decision making, planning and administration. He also urged the department to initiate innovative methods to facilitate compliance of rules and regulations at minimum cost with maximum convenience to the business community in order to enable them to remain ahead in a competitive environment.
