Former minister Muddappa dies

Two-time MLA from Kalmala (Raichur Rural) and former minister Muniyappa Muddappa (65) died  at Bangalore on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife, a son and five daughters.

Muddappa entered the Vidhana Soudha representing JD(S) and was minister of state for irrigation in the Deve Gowda cabinet. Later, he was Endowment Minister in the JH Patel government.

Recently, he had joined the BSR Congress and was preparing to contest the Assembly polls from Hiriyur in Chitradurga. His body was brought to Raichur in the afternoon and kept for public viewing, after which it was cremated in the evening.

Chief Minister’s political secretary Shivangouda Nayak, MP Phakkirappa, MLA Syed Yasin, former ministers Raja Amareshwar Nayak, Sudhindrarao Kasbe, former MP Rangappa Nayak, former MLA Papareddy, hotelier E Anjaneya, Congress leader Venkanna Yadav and others paid their respects to the departed leader.
