'Gowda Helped Son Cheat in Exam'

Express News Service

BANGALORE: Former Prime Minster H D Deve Gowda swapped the KPSC answer script of his son H D Balakrishna Gowda in 1978, senior advocate A K Subbaiah alleged on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said Deve Gowda and his family were protesting the government’s decision to scrap the 2011 KPSC selection list because they stand to benefit from the scam.

“I have seen, when I was general secretary of the Janata Party in 1978, Deve Gowda taking out the original answer script of his son H D Balakrishna Gowda and replacing it with another,” he said.

A shocked Subbaiah admittedly asked Gowda what he was up to. “He is my son and I have to do something,” he quoted Gowda as saying.

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who visited Freedom Park on Wednesday, defended his father Deve Gowda.

“If Subbaiah witnessed my father changing answer scripts, why he was quiet for such a long time?” he asked.

Kumaraswamy said Subbaiah should provide evidence, and not make unsubstantiated charges. “He is a senior advocate and should not indulge in loose talk,” he said.

Deve Gowda could not be reached over the phone for comment. He did not respond to a text message either.
