The BJP’s high-voltage campaign to make Narendra Modi the next prime minister will feature some free entertainment with street plays, skits and spoofs to tickle your funny bone.

The party has roped in several leading writers, theatre artistes and drama troupes to stage about eight or nine plays, skits and even lavanis to depict the development of Gujarat under Modi.

“We are also giving final touches to scripts on spoofs on our rivals Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh that would present their corruption, bad governance and incompetence to the people in a very comic style,” said Ganesh Yaji, head of BJP’s art and culture wing.

Theatre personality Yeshwant Sardeshpande, director Gopal Krishna and writer M Narasimhamurthy are among those giving the final touches to the political plays and lavanis.

“We are planning to launch them from March 25 or 27. About eight to 10 well-known drama troupes, including the famous Mayura Kalaranga from Magadi and Gundyavana Kala Balaga in Kumta, will present these plays in all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies,” Yaji told Express.

Meanwhile, mobile caller tunes to promote Modi are also doing the rounds, with many BJP leaders and workers already using them. One such caller tune being used by BJP state general secretary C T Ravi goes like this: “Yeh Yakeen Se Kehesakthahoon Mein, Modi Aanewaale Hein.”

Apart from this, Modi merchandise such as masks, caps, T-shirts, watches, friendship bands and bandanas have hit the market.

Speaking to Express, Maltesh Bhat, who is part of the BJP’s innovative campaign team, said a barrage of TV advertisement capsules on Modi’s leadership and the failures of the UPA government would be telecast soon. “We are finalising about 10 to 12 advertisement capsules on various themes which we will start airing soon,” he said.
